Types of Tea.

There are over 3000 different varieties of tea around the world. That’s a lot of tea! But there are only certain types of tea.

Herbal teas are not actually true teas and are instead tisanes which are a combination of different flowers, herbs, and plants.

The main types of tea.

Black

Caffeine: High. Black tea has a lot higher caffeine content than many other types of tea.

Flavour: strong, robust

Popular Varieties: Assam, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, English breakfast

Green

Caffeine: Low. Green tea has less caffeine than Black and Oolong but often more than many other types of tea. The caffeine content of green tea can vary a lot depending on the variety.

Flavour: Fragrant, grassy, floral

Popular Varieties: Matcha, Sencha, Dragonwell Green Tea, Gunpowder Green Tea

White

Caffeine: Low. White tea has the lowest caffeine content of most types of tea.

Flavour: Delicate, sweet, floral,

Herbal

Caffeine: None. Herbal teas are usually caffeine free. They are not true teas and are often called tisanes.

Flavour: Fruity

Popular Varieties: Hibiscus, Chamomile, Pomegranate

Oolong

Caffeine: Low. Oolong generally has one of the lowest amounts of caffeine amongst most types of tea. Less than Black but more than Green and White.

Flavour: Light, grassy, sweet, toasty

Popular Varieties: Ginseng Oolong, Da Hong Pao, Guandong

Rooibos

Caffeine: None. If you’re after a caffeine free tea, then Rooibos is a great option.

Flavour: nutty, vanilla, sweet
