Biodiversity Loss

With over 80% of our species being endemic to Australia, our nation is classed as one of the planets 17 megadiverse countries. These nations support over 70% of all species.

Unfortunately, Australia has the highest rate of mammal loss in the world despite making up about 10% of the world’s biodiversity. Coming in at #2 for biodiversity loss and also ranking in the bottom 10 countries on the Climate Change Performance Index for 2023, Australia has a long way to go in regards to environmental policy.

There have been over 100 extinctions in Australia

The IUCN [International Union for Conservation of Nature] currently lists over 2,600 species of native Australian flora and fauna on their Red List. The largest threats facing our native species is climate change, urbanisation, and the effect of invasive species.
